Lady Petronilla of Thornton is the only daughter of Lord Bryce Robinmere, Duke of Valencour. Her older brother is Huernan, the Heir of Valencour. Her younger brother is Lord Urien, Baron of Shade Isle. Petronilla was closest to her father and older brother. Where Lord Bryce and Huernan were intellectuals, Urien, was a pompous, brash warrior.
Petronilla spent her youth in Oldcastle, the capital city of her father's House.
During those years she studied history, art, and various forms of mysticism - an interest shared with her older brother. She visited many noble courts within the dukedom, preferring the court of Sea Reach above them all.
At the age of twenty-five, she left Valencour and travelled to Larelle to marry Lord Bertran, to become the Marquess of Thornton.
